About Callanetics
What is Callanetics
The unique Callanetics exercise method is a non-impact body conditioning program that promotes deep muscle tone throughout the entire body. Using a combination of mat work and ballet inspired leg work (one of the original barre workouts), Callanetics exercises tighten, tone and lift muscles fast. This exceptional form of exercise uses precise positioning and tiny, yet powerful, movements which promote strength, flexibility and improves posture. The quick toning effect can be felt and seen within hours.
The History
Callanetics exercises were developed by Callan Pinckney. Callan Pinckney was raised in Savannah, Georgia. She trained in classical ballet for twelve years and studied other forms of dance, movement and exercise. She had to restore her own body to health when, after an eleven-year backpacking voyage around the world, the rigours of travel, along with a congenial back defect, led to physical breakdown. On her return to the US, she began to experiment with different exercise techniques combined with her ballet training to develop the Callanetics program which finally solved her physical problems. She discovered that by performing some very small precise movements not only was she alleviated from her pain but her body looked and felt better than it ever had!
